As well as recording the change in the way the use the Internet, the study, by the Office of National Statistics (UK) showed the demographic of Internet users. Many of us now have the Internet at home, paying bills, online banking and buying lottery tickets online, with some of us even shopping regularly and booking holidays online. Yet for people who have no formal qualifications, the number of people who have never used the Internet is as high as 55%. It wasn’t just education that made the difference either, in households with an income of less than £10,399, a massive 31% of people had never been online to browse the net or buy lottery tickets for the UK National Lottery and Euromillions Lottery online.

The study also showed that the most popular online activity is sending emails, a number bolstered by the many businesses that use email as their primary form of communication. However, coming up fast in the list of internet growth is that now, 5% of people use the Internet to gamble online or play the lottery, check results and buy tickets online.
