Originally it was thought that the Canada Lotto 6/49 jackpot would hit $38 million but by Saturday morning it became clear that the prize would be much bigger after a rush of last day sales. It grew even more however with a rush of sales between 4pm and 9pm and hit $50.3 million by the time of the draw.
Tensions were high and it was starting to look like a record Canada Lotto 6/49 jackpot, it did however fall short at the last minute and the record still belongs to the 2005 draw with a prize of $54.3 million won by a syndicate of oil workers in Camrose.
The lottery jackpot had got so high that even the second prize reached a staggering $4.5 million, twenty players hit that and will each walk away with $224,863 each.
