Found Lotto Ticket

National Lottery Tickets Earlier this year we brought you news about a couple who had found a winning lottery ticket and cashed in the £30,000 prize, spending half of it almost immediately. The winner of the ticket had called Camelot to report the ticket lost but as the ticket had already been cashed Camelot refused to pay out twice after paying the found lotto ticket out already.

This led to the case being brought in front of a judge this week who has ordered that half the money be repaid to the original owner of the UK National Lottery ticket by the finders of the lost lotto ticket.

The case puts a whole slant on the phrase ‘finders keepers’. Dorothy McDonagh purchased her Daily Play lottery ticket and upon checking the numbers and realised she had lost her lottery ticket. She called Camelot but Mr and Mrs Stacey had already found the £30,000 ticket and cashed it in. This meant that Camelot wouldn’t pay out the ticket twice and it would seem that Mrs McDonagh was to be out of pocket.

However a judge has now ruled that the Stacey’s must repay half of the winnings to Mrs McDonagh as the ticket belonged to her in the first place.

This won’t be an end to the matter though as Mrs McDonagh is not happy to accept the half share and will be taking the Stacey’s back to court to try and claim the other half.
