Californian Bartender Wins $1 Million with Money Found on Floor

Stumbling across a $20 bill left on the ground may be considered good fortune by most people, but a bartender from California has enjoyed even better luck after using the money he found to play the lottery and win $1 million. Hubert Tang picked up the cash from the ground outside San Francisco International Airport and decided to buy two scratch-off tickets at the nearby Andrea’s Market in Millbrae.

He played immediately and admits it was a huge shock to the system when he realised how much he had won. In a statement reported by the California Lottery, Tang said: “I scratched the ticket straight away. I told my friends who I was with, that I didn’t know if it was real but ‘I think I just won a million dollars’.”

Tang, who works at the airport, had not purchased a lottery ticket for a decade and is not quite sure yet what he will do with the money. He will initially put some of the winnings into a savings account, while he may also give others the opportunity to find cash like he did. Tang joked: “Maybe I’ll start leaving $20 bills on the street in random places.” Tang also told KPIX: “Mom can definitely look forward to a new car or something.”

Tang and his family will not be the only ones to benefit from the bill he found, with the California State Lottery confirming that Andrea’s Market will also receive a bonus of $5,000 for selling a winning ticket. The bartender’s success shows that you never know what might be round the corner and, if it is a $20 bill on the floor, it really might feel as though as you have won the lottery!
