Are the US storing up a Lotto problems

Are the US storing up a lotto problems? That’s the question today as we look at the relaxation of many lottery laws and rules across America. From more lotteries to play, to daily games and keno are American’s actually storing up a whole lot of gambling problems for the future. It’s a known fact that the biggest gambling addictions in the US come from lottery players and are new rules and a new role for the lottery helping those problems at all.
Research into compulsive gambling in the US have shown that it is a real problem for many people and it was this decision that led to the passing of an act banning many forms of online gambling, including online bingo halls and many casinos, yet the lotteries remain.
It’s not just that the lotteries keep running either, it’s that they keep expanding and offering even more games, while the profits made for them go into schools and hospitals it gives many people justification playing them.
Where the UK has just two lottery draws, the UK National Lottery and the Euromillions Lottery, America has hundreds, from the main two state lotteries, the Powerball and Mega Millions Lottery to the very many state lotteries many of which offer slot type instant games such as keno.
Now of course many American states are about to start offering both main lotteries after originally having one of the other play, advocates liken the move to having a choice between brands but opponents to gambling believe – maybe rightly – that it will just cause players to buy for both.
So is the US storing up a whole lot of gambling problems with its changes to the lottery? That is yet to be seen but for now many officials are seeing it as a good way to bridge state finances while the global financial crisis continues.
