Adverts on Lottery Tickets

The Massachusetts State Lottery commission yesterday approved a contract to place adverts on Lottery tickets. In one of the first moves of its kind on any world lottery from next month the Fenway Sports Group will be placing ads on Massachusetts lottery tickets. It's an interesting idea and should raise revenue for the lottery by a massive amount. Never seen before we think that ads on lottery tickets might be copied in the future by many lotteries around the world.
Lotteries are always looking for ways to improve revenue and create more money for the country they support and although there isn’t much space on instant tickets it will be an option if they can come up with something. Advertising will most certainly appear on the states Keno screens and hopefully even more will follow.
It’s a great way to sell advertising space without the need for billboards on the lottery office and all that is to be decided now is which advertising company to go with.
The contract starts on May 1st 2009 and will originally be for a one year trial period, worth around $360,000 to the lottery. Funding is yet to be approved but the whole process is now in motion.
Anything that keeps down the price of lottery tickets around the world and creates even more cash for good causes has to be a good thing and I’m sure many people will see this as the way forward for many world lottery organisations.
Taking into account the UK National Lottery and the extra ways they have dedicated themselves to cutting costs and providing more money for good causes these lottery tickets adverts might just be the way forward.
This project is the first of its kind and only time will tell if it’s a success or not. We will be watching with interest as we’re sure many lotteries from around the world will be also.
