A Good Book Better Than a Lottery Win

According to a recent survey by the National Lottery a good book is better than a lottery win. Most people surveyed would happily shun material goods for spending time with their families, enjoying a nice cup of tea and a good book. 1,200 people were surveyed and number ten on the list was hearing the words ‘I love you’.
A nice cup of tea made sixth place on the list, maybe showing that we’re all more typically British than we like to think, we all know of course that a cup of tea solves far more problems than money ever did.

The highest place technological item was unsurprisingly the internet, coming in at number 12th on the list with the television only making number twenty, showing changes in the way we live our lives and relax.
Mum came in at number 11, just before the internet but Dad had to make do with number 37 way below the internet, television and just beat the iPod which ranked number 39 on the survey by the National Lottery.
Health is clearly important to people with the NHS coming it at number 7, while water – the only thing on the list we couldn’t live without- only ranked number 8. Sitting in the sun also ranked highly, maybe with the last couple of summers we’ve had this one ranks highly on the wish list.
It’s interesting to see that rather than millions, it’s the little things in life that make us smile and make our lives complete, long soaks in the bath, relaxing in the sun and spending time with our beloveds are after all completely free.
Interestingly a trip to the dentist ranked at number 50, possibly proving that with the lack of NHS dentists, getting our teeth seen to has become a luxury rather than a necessity.
So next time you’re hoping for a nice lottery win, stop for a moment and think about all the lovely things you already have in your life and are maybe taking for granted.
