Powerball for the Texas Lottery
18th November 2009 12:20 PM
It was only yesterday that we spoke of the Mega Millions game to be launched in Iowa, today we can tell you that it’s Powerball for the Texas Lottery if the panel gives approval to the rules. This is another step forward in the plans for cross selling Mega Millions and Powerball over all the states in the US and will probably not be the last news about additional games that we bring you.
Like the Mega Millions in Iowa, Powerball in Texas could be on sale from 31st January 2009 if all goes according to plan.
It was only last month that the Powerball and Mega Millions reached an agreement to let states sell tickets for both games, previously each state had to choose one or the other hence the difference in numbers. Powerball is currently sold in 31 states, US Virgin Islands and District of Columbia but the Mega Millions is only available in 12; 13 if you count the Iowa Lottery that should be having it’s first draw on 2nd February 2010.
So why the big differences in numbers between the two big games? It could be attributed to the state Lottery Commissions favouring the Powerball because prizes are only estimated, not guaranteed. This means that if ticket sales don’t cover the amount of the jackpot advertised, the winner will only take away the amount that ticket sales will support.
The addition of Power for the Texas Lottery will see their revenue jump by a further $35 million a year, a figure that is not being sniffed at by the powers that be.
Should approval be given for Powerball for the Texas Lottery, like any other World Lottery, you will be able to buy your tickets online.
