With all the latest news focusing on the mother of Shannon Matthew’s knowing of her whereabouts throughout the search for her missing daughter, it is even more shocking to learn that the idea may have stemmed from an episode of Shameless.
In the episode in question of Channel 4’s hit show Frank Gallagher, the head of the dysfunctional family, is reported in the local news to have won £500,000 on the National Lottery. This is just a lie in order for him to enjoy the notoriety and free drinks in his local pub but his young daughter is aware that Frank has never bought a lottery ticket in his life and plots to stage a kidnap of his youngest son in order to bring the truth to light.
A ransom demand of the full amount of £500,000 is then issued with little Liam being hidden just a few doors away with a friend of the sister.
Police are currently studying the episode to see if there any similarities between the Shannon Matthew’s case and the plot of Shameless. Karen Matthews may well be questioned about it.
