$57 million Mega Millions winner named as sex offender

Reading through the lottery news on Google one headline screamed out at me, it read similar to the title of this article about a registered sex offender winning $57 million on the Mega Millions game. The man, Fred Topous Jr who is 45, is not only a registered sex offender he also pleaded guilty to two breaking and entering charges back in the 1980’s.
Topous has already claimed his prize and opted for the lump sum payment of $34 million rather than the instalments over a 20 year period.
Rather than just sit in judgement of this man based on one article that was short and sweet I went for a look about on the World Wide Web to see what other stories where emerging about this huge Mega Millions lottery winner.
MLive reports a little more in-depth about the charges and Topous’s time in prison but simply because prison officials had asked the attorney general’s office if there were anyway they could recoup the costs of the man’s incarceration now he is a multi millionaire. The simple answer was “no” although the prison does go on to say that they do accept “donations”.
I think it’s highly unlikely that a convicted sex offender who had sex with a 13 year old girl when he was 36 is likely to offer the state any of the $30,000 a year it cost to keep him in prison.
Topous says he plans to spend his Mega Millions win on buying a new house and sending his children to college. He then told lottery officials that he wants to “enjoy life a little” and went on to describe how he and his family have struggled all their lives!
I’d string the bugger up by his gonads and watch him swing personally!
