Australian Lottery
There are several Lotteries running in Australia but the biggest and main Australian Lottery is Oz Lotto. It’s Australia’s original national lottery game, created on February 26th 1994 it was originally a once weekly lottery played on Tuesday evenings. Since 2000 the lottery has become, like many world lotteries bi-weekly with draws every Tuesday and Saturday evening. The Oz Lotto was the first Australian lottery game to be based on chance and is administered by Tattersalls.
It’s now one of around fifteen lottery draws running in the country including one based on the popular Powerball game based in the US, yet the Oz lotto is still Australia’s main draw, bringing in players from right across the country.
How to Play The Australian Lottery
To Play the the Australian Lottery you need to choose seven numbers from a possible 45, games cost $1 plus the agents commission. Originally just six numbers were drawn making it similar to other lottery draws from around the world but the number was increased to seven in 2005. There are seven numbers and two bonus numbers drawn from the barrel each week and to win the jackpot you need to match all seven main numbers to the balls drawn.
The chances of winning the Australian Lottery jackpot are around one in 45 million but with prizes paid across the divisions including matching several numbers and the bonus ball the overall chance of winning a prize is as little as one in 55.
Oz Lotto operates under several names since the launch of the seventh winning number, in Tattersalls jurisdictions the lottery is now known as Super 7’s Oz Lotto and in Queensland the name Oz 7 Lotto is accepted, however it is still know as Oz Lotto is most Australian states although the branding and advertising for the game has changed in line with the rules.
